The Budget proposes $82.8 billion in discretionary budget authority and additional mandatory funding to further support specific initiatives in the discretionary budget. The President’s fiscal year (FY) 2017 Budget for HHS includes investments needed to support the health and well being of the nation and legislative proposals that taken together would save on net an estimated $242 billion over 10 years. The Budget for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) continues and expands on critical investments in health care, scientific research, medical innovation, disease prevention, early education, social services, human development, and emergency preparedness to protect the health and well-being of the American people. The Department of Health and Human Services enhances the health and well-being of Americans by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.
